Lecture Programmes

The Society runs a programme of events from September to May/June the following year. Apart from AGM, which takes place on the third or fourth Tuesday in September, the Society usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm from October to April in the Lakeview Suite, Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre, Lakeview Road, Craigavon - close to Rushmere Shopping Centre.

Our AGM is followed by the Philip Wilson Memorial Lecture which is a open to the public - this lecture is funded by Craigavon Museum Services and this year's subject was the Plantation of Ulster. Visitors are welcome to any of our other lectures on a one-off basis. We have an annual dinner each year, usually on the first Tuesday in February and, in recent years, this has also been held in the Craigavon Civic Centre. In May, we have an evening outing to an area of historic interest and at the end of May or beginning of June we have our annual Saturday outing by coach to somewhere a little further away. This year we had an excellent guided tour of the Downpatrick area and last year we travelled south of the border to visit a local Beaulieu, built by Sir Henry Tichbourne the Marshall of the Army in Ireland at the time of the restoration of Charles II. In the afternoon we visited Barmeath Castle near Grangebellew which dates back to the 15th Century and is still occupied by the Bellew family who built it. Annual outings are open to members of their society and their friends (space permitting).
